Today was our first full day in Tokyo! We all woke up around 7 and met in the hotels breakfast room at about 7:20. Molly wasn't feeling that well and had a temperature, so she stayed in the room. Anyway, breakfast was pretty good. There was a lot of Japanese food, obviously, but most of us were very grateful for the American toast and yogurt!! After breakfast, our group minus Molly and Ms. Owen, plus Sam and Ichinohe sansei left the hotel and took our first steps on the streets of Tokyo. It was incredible and hectic at the same time. While we were wearing jeans and sweatshirts, almost everyone on the streets were wearing suits.
One of the most interesting experiences of the day though was crossing the street. We would be on one side of the street and on the other side there was a wall of fancy looking people on the other side. When the little light said it was okay to cross we would all take a few cautious steps before e wall of people surged toward us! It was crazy, and our strategy to stay together was to try to follow Ryan's head because it was so much higher up than everyone else's. we had to cross a lot of streets to get to the train station. The train was basically the same as crossing the street. Soooo many people!!
The Tokyo Edo museum was really cool. It was all about Tokyo before it was Tokyo. There were many dioramas and some really cool bikes that we had some major photo shoots on!!
After that we went to a burger place! Burgers was exactly what we wanted so our awesome tour guide took us to a burger place!!! It tasted delicious!
We then went to a shrine. I can't remember the name, but it was in the middle of Tokyo and it was exquisite, and there was so much greenery. It was so beautiful.
Our next activity was shopping at Takeshita street. It was so fun!! We all got a lot of cool stuff, including a lot of clothes for us girls!!! Highlights:
- fun stores
- cute clothes
- good food
- lots of souvenirs and candy
It was an awesome day, and we ended it at an all you can eat buffet on one of the top floors of the train station!! There was some good food, but also some food that we didn't like! Overall, It was an amazing day, but we were all incredibly tired. Can't wait for tomorrow and the rest of the trip!
